About HINDALCO Industries Limited (Unit 1. Aditya Aluminium, Unit 2. Hirakud Power & Smelter)

Aditya Aluminium (AA), a unit of Hindalco Industries Limited is a part of Aditya Birla Group (ABG). Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is having a consolidated turnover of USD $ 28 billion. Aditya Aluminium (AA) operates at its rated capacity of 3.6 lakh tons of aluminium per year. Power, which is considered as base raw material for production of aluminium, is generated in its 900 MW coal based thermal Captive Power Plant (CPP). The unit is installed with a capital investment of 2 billion USD (Rs.14700 Cr) Where as Hirakud Smelter, commissioned on January 1, 1959, began with an 85 kA pot line, gradually expanding by 10 KTPA. In July 2013, two new pot lines with 80 advanced 235 kA pots were added. Currently, the smelter has 13 Pot Rooms with 785 installed pots, achieving an annual production capacity of 2,16,000 tons of aluminum.

Hirakud Power Plant, a 467.5 MW coal-based captive thermal power plant in Sambalpur, Odisha, supplies electricity to the smelter and FRP unit of Hindalco Industries. Spanning 33.36 acres, the plant ensures uninterrupted power for aluminum production. Operated by Hindalco, this integrated setup supports efficient and sustainable metal manufacturing.
